The First 68

Back

Ahh yes, you never forget the first one now do you. I picked up this jewel for $1300 with a straight six and a 3 speed manual transmission. Aside from the 4 wheel drum brakes barely working, the rest was in good condition and became my commuter for the short term. With some massaging of the stock components, the car would just barely run head to head with a Honda CRX Si that had just been released at that time. I'm no snob, Honda made a good car that year, and the bottom of the line Camaro from 30 years earlier was still holding its own.

It wasn't long though before the need for a V8 and an automatic to ease stop and go traffic became a neccesity. I built a mild 327ci and a street strip TH-350 coupled to a 3.50 rear gearing and 305 tires to stick it down.
