 Aprilia Falco Brembo Front Brakes

Factory Brembo Brakes
What could be better than a bike which comes from the factory equipped with Brembo brakes. They are outstanding in almost every way on the Falco and offer the rider tremendous control and feedback. I have run them extremely hard and have yet to experience any fade. The rear brake is exceptional as well but be careful with trail braking a worn rear tire, it will lock up.

When I purchased the bike, I had a little stutter from the front brakes which pulsed back into the lever... a warped rotor. A spin test showed the warp was very localized. I would have to assume that someone didn't support the front wheel properly when breaking the bead off the tire and consequently warped the rotor.

While I have nothing but good things to say about the Brembo equipment and the aprilia, the cost to service them is quite high. A decent pair of replacement rotors starts at $300 and goes up from there. All hope was not lost though, as ApriliaForum manages an interchange list of rotors off of both Ducati and Yamaha models where the cost comes down quite a bit. I picked up a set of rotors for a 2001 to 2002 Ducati Monster S4 for $100. Using the included countersunk bolts resulted in a perfect fit although a bit more bling with the Brembo gold centers isntead of my Aprilia black ones.

The rear master cylindar is compact, sits sideways rather than upright. The brake line runs behind then under the swingarm for a hidden and discreat fit. It offers good feel and enough adjustability to satisfy most riders.

The rear caliper is a two piston design that is slightly larger than your typical Ducati version. The rotor is small and crossdrilled to allow scraping of the pads should buildup occur. The rear brake is more than capable of locking up the rear so I dont forsee any upgrades coming here. Shown is the stock caliper attached to the 01 Mille Swingarm on my Falco.
